Hawai`i County Nutrition
Program
The Hawai`i County Nutrition
Program is part of the County of Hawai`i’s Department of Parks and
Recreation, Elderly Activities Division. The Hawai`i County Nutrition
Program provides two nutrition services for the seniors of Hawai`i County:
Congregate Dining and Meals on Wheels. For more information on this
program, please call (808) 961-8726.
CONGREGATE
DINING:
This service provides low cost, nutritious meals with a variety of
activities at congregate dining sites throughout the island. The
program provides meals Monday through Friday (in most
districts).
Activities include educational sessions on nutrition, health, and
consumer education as well as leisure activities such as crafts,
fitness exercises, music, and mini tours. Transportation
services may be provided to/from congregate dining sites and
recreational activities. |
 |
Congregate Dining Eligibility: Congregate meals are provided to
persons 60 years and older, and their spouses, regardless of
age.
Congregate Dining Contributions: All participants are given
the opportunity to contribute what they can towards the actual cost
of each meal. The program is certified to accept EBT cards for meal
contributions. The suggested contribution amount is $2.00 per
congregate meal. |
MEALS ON WHEELS:
This service delivers low
cost, nutritious meals to homebound elderly throughout the island.
These meals assist the elderly in remaining independent, and in
their own homes and communities for as long as possible.
Meals on Wheels Eligibility: Meals on Wheels are delivered to
persons 60 years and older, who are homebound due to illness or
disability. Each person is individually assessed to determine their
eligibility. |

|
Meals on Wheels Contributions: All participants are given the
opportunity to contribute what they can towards the actual cost of
each meal. The program is certified to accept EBT cards for meal
contributions. The suggested contribution amount is $2.50 per home
delivered meal.
